      James's Apple Dumplings

 

For the Pastry;

2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup lard
1/2 cup milk

Combine dry ingredients and sift together in a bowl. Cut in the lard until mixture is pebbly.
Add milk and blend. Roll out on lightly floured board to a rectangle about 1/4" thick.
Cut into strips 3" long and 11/2" wide.

For the sauce;

2 cups sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
2 tbs lemon juice
1/2 cup water
6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

In a saucepan combine all the ingredients and boil until thick. One by one slide in the cut pastry strips.
When all are in, pour carefully into baking dish. Bake @ 375 for 40 mins. Pass the heavy cream or a bowl of whipped cream.
