  Granny's Gingerbread

 

3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ginger 

3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup syrup (sorghum)
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk
Raisins (opt) 1/2 cup


Mix shortening, eggs, sugar & syrup. Add buttermilk. Sift dry ingredients together and add to wet mixture. Mix well, pour into a greased and floured pan. Bake 40 minutes and serve with applesauce, or vanilla ice cream.
