4 slices Bread
6 ounces fully-cooked sausage, cut in 1/4-inch thick slices
1 large apple, peeled, cored and cut in 1/4-inch thick wedges
3/4 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
5 eggs
3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 325. Place bread in a single layer in a 9-inch
square baking dish.
cook sausage and apple in a large skillet, covered, over medium heat,
5 minutes until apples begin to soften. Uncover and cook until liquid
evaporates and sausage is lightly browned, about 4 minutes.
Place apples and sausage evenly over bread. Top with cheese.
Mix together eggs and milk; pour over cheese. Let stand ten minutes or
cover and refrigerate overnight.
BAKE 30 minutes (35-40 minutes if refrigerated) until slightly puffy and
eggs are set in center.
Cut into squares to serve.
I probably hold the distinction of being one movie star who, by
all laws of logic, should never have made it. At each stage of my career, I
lacked the experience.
