Granny's Baked Onions In Tomato Sauce
6 medium onions
1 quart canned tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
2 cloves
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons melted butter -- or other fat
Salt & pepper
Skin the onions, cut in half, simmer in lightly salted water for 10 minutes,
dr ain, and put in a large baking dish. Cook the tomatoes with the bay leaf,
cele ry seed, and cloves for 10 minutes, and strain. Blend the flour and melted
fat , add to the tomato juice with the salt and pepper, and mix well. Pour over
th e onions, cover and cook until the onions are tender, about 1 hour. serve
from the baking dish.
