Salisbury & Smothered Steak

 

Shanna's Stuffed Smothered Steak

 

4 cups sliced onions
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup sliced garlic
3/4 cup steak sauce, divided
1 (2-pound) beef top round steak, about 1-1/2 inches thick 
  
1 In large skillet, over medium heat, saute onions in oil 8 to 10 minutes. Add garlic; cook 8 to 10 minutes more or until onions and garlic are soft and golden brown, stirring occasionally. Stir in 1/2 cup steak sauce; heat through. Set aside.
2 Wash sharp knife, make a horizontal pocket in side of steak, being careful not to cut all the way through. Stuff reserved onion mixture into pocket; secure with wooden toothpicks. Grill steak over medium heat or broil 6 inches from heat source 10 to 12 minutes on each side or to desired doneness, basting frequently with remaining 1/4 cup steak sauce. Remove toothpicks; let steak rest 10 minutes. Slice steak. Serve immediately.
