 Hot Wine Pudding Sauce

 

1/2 cup sugar
2 tbs cornstarch
1 pinch salt
1 pinch ground allspice
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 cup boiling water
2 tbs fresh lemon juice
1 small strip bruised lemon peel
2 tbs butter
3/4 cup port

in a pan combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, allspice and nutmeg. Pour on boiling water.
Place over low heat and cook, stirring constantly until thick and transparent. add lemon
peel, juice, butter and wine. Heat gently. Do not boil. Serve hot
