Back To Slaw Salads

 

 

Kat's Sweet & Sour Slaw

1 medium head cabbage, shredded
table salt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon mild French's Prepared Mustard
1/3 cup SWEET Chopped Pickles, drained well
2 tablespoons chopped pimento, drained well
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon celery seed (optional)
1/4 teaspoon onion powder or Onion Magic -- A Gaylord Hauser product
available at some supermarkets
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup salted Cocktail Peanuts
Remove outside leaves from cabbage if they are wilted and discard them. Cut cabbage in half and then in quarters. Cut away the core and discard it. Shred remaining cabbage and place it in a colander. Rinse it with cold water and drain well. Place cabbage in a bowl and sprinkle it with about 1/3 cup table salt and stir the salt in well. Place some ice cubes on top of it. Cover and refrigerate several hours or as long as possible. When ready to assemble the slaw, remove cabbage from refrigerator. Discard ice cubes. Thoroughly rinse cabbage in colander with cold water and drain it well. Mix rest of ingredients together and combine with the cabbage in a serving bowl. Add peanuts and toss
